Support after a suicide
When someone dies by suicide, many people are affected. People respond in different ways, but we know that getting support early is really important.
Here are some things you could do:
-
You could find a support group. Some of these groups are run by people who have dealt with the suicide of someone close to them. To locate a support group in your area, go to the Lifeline Service Finder at http://www.lifeline.org.au/find_help/service_finder
-
You could download information from Lifeline's website at http://www.lifeline.org.au/find_help/suicide_prevention/suicide_prevention_resources_and_links#8
-
You could check out the Survivors of Suicide booklet. To download a Survivors of Suicide booklet, please click here. Please note that this is a large file download which may not be practical to print. To order a hard copy of the booklet please contact the Lifeline on 02 6215 9400 or email national@lifeline.org.au. (Sometimes people affected by suicide are called ‘survivors’ because they are left to deal with the pain of the suicide loss). This booklet has been written by people who have experienced a suicide loss and helped many others deal with suicides of loved ones in their lives.
